FOREST FRACTIONS!

A forest has 1000 trees. 1/4 of them are Oak. 1/4 of them are Spruce. 1/8 of them are Pine. How many Elm trees are there, if the rest of them are Elm?

To answer this problem...

1: 1/4 of 1000 is 250

So, there is 250 Oak, and 250 Spruce which is 500 trees

2: 1/8 of 1000 is 125

So, there is 125  Pine trees

3: 250+250+125=625 trees out of 1000

4: 1000-625=375 Elm trees

Therefore, you have 375 Elm trees out of 1000, which equals 3/8

In fraction form, this looks like...

1/4 (Oak) + 1/4 (Spruce) + 1/8 (Pine) + 3/8 (Elm) = 1 whole forest
